Research Team

Martin Wall, PhD (London School of Economics)

Martin Wall joined SHORE in September 2008 from the University of East London in The UK. Martin was part of a team designing and implementing a large programme of complex interventions in London’s most deprived communities to improve diet, physical activity and mental wellbeing and provide evidence on effective policies to address persistent health inequalities. He was trained as an economist and econometrician receiving his PhD at the London School of Economics and his research interests are in the fields of economic development and the social, economic and environmental determinants of health outcomes. In recent years he worked on a study based at Imperial College in London on the economic impacts of the HIV epidemic in Russia and has carried out street surveys of sex workers and drug injectors in Russia. He also worked as an economic adviser to the British Government on its technical assistance to the countries of the Former Soviet Union. He has developed a number of statistical models for policy makers including the energy demand models used to inform the UK Government’s position at the Kyoto climate change talks in 1997, a Balance of Payments forecasting model for the Central Bank of Botswana and a revenue forecasting for the Ministry of Finance in Azerbaijan.
