Public Health Workforce Development in the PHO setting (2003)

The Centre for Social and Health Outcomes Research and Evaluation (SHORE) and Te Ropu Whariki were contracted by the Ministry of Health, Public Health Directorate to undertake an analysis of the public health workforce development requirements in the primary health organisation (PHO) setting.

We looked at what has been written about public health workforce development and PHOs, interviewed a small number of key informants and developed a draft set of recommendations and a draft strategy for workforce development for a population health and health promotion focus in PHO settings, which are set out in the following report:
