New Zealand Arrestee Drug Abuse Monitoring (NZ-ADAM)

A New Zealand Arrestee Drug Abuse Monitoring (NZ-ADAM) system was developed as part of the international drug monitoring network (I-ADAM). NZ-ADAM adopted the core I-ADAM requirements with adaptations for New Zealand’s drug environment, legal procedure and the protocols of the New Zealand Police at watch houses. NZ-ADAM was closely aligned with the Australian DUMA model to ensure easy comparability with this. NZ-ADAM examined the prevalence and types of drug use among the arrestee population, trends in illicit drug markets, gathered general information on the offending behaviour of the arrestee population, and monitored drug treatment demand and the utilisation of drug treatment services. NZ-ADAM also provided demographic data on the arrestee population and provide the capacity to gather data on special topics of interest related to the arrestee population.
