New Zealand Fire Service Commission Evaluation of Research and Promotion for Maori

Maori households are disproportionately represented in the statistics for fire incidences and fire fatalities. In an effort to address these disparities, the New Zealand Fire Service Commission (NZFSC) conducted research under its Contestable Research Fund into issues facing Maori and run a number of fire safety education programmes aimed at promoting awareness and knowledge around fire safety in Maori communities (see www.fire.org.nz) . In addition, a year long print advertising campaign has been conducted in two national Maori publications and a national iwi radio station campaign was run for several months. Whariki have been contracted by NZFSC to evaluate their research and promotional activity in relation to Maori communities.
