Evaluation of Te Hotu Manawa Maori, Auahi Kore and Nutritional and Physical Activity/ Kai Totika me Whakapakari Tinana Services

Te Hotu Manawa Maori is a national health promotion organisation with the specific aim of reducing the likelihood of heart related illness and death amongst Maori. The organisation is a totally by Maori for Maori health service.

Te Hotu Manawa Maori has requested that Whariki Research Group conduct a 20 month project to evaluate THMM Nutritional and Physical Activity/ Kai Totika me Whakapakari Tinana Service (NPAS). The evaluation project began in September 2006 and runs to April 2008.

The aims of the evaluation are:

  • To contribute to the planning and review of implementation processes of THMM NPAS (formative evaluation)
  • Assist with developing the self evaluation and monitoring capacity for NPAS
  • To document and describe the way the NPAS programme has developed and its delivery (process evaluation)
  • To document and describe the intended and unintended impacts of NPAS programmes (impact evaluation)

Te Hotu Manawa Maori’s Auahi Kore Service has also requested Whariki Research Group undertake an evaluation of the Auahi Kore Service. The evaluation project began in January 2007 and is to be completed by January 2008.
The aims of the evaluation are:

  • To contribute to the planning and review of implementation processes of THMM’s Auahi Kore Service (formative evaluation)
  • Provide a review of recent research literature relevant to the Auahi Kore Service
  • Assist with developing the self evaluation and monitoring capacity for Auahi Kore
  • To document and describe the way the Auahi Kore programme has developed and its delivery (process evaluation)
