Place Planning Best Practice Research

In February 2008, Auckland City Council's Community services transitioned to a new service delivery model. Community services now has two community programme teams which look at community development across Auckland city as a whole, and five place teams that focus on community development within a certain geographical area of Auckland city.

A ‘place based’ approach has been taken to develop the place plans and SHORE has been contracted to further develop the knowledge base around place planning to enhance the creation of Auckland City's 2010/2011 place plans.

SHORE researchers will produce a report with recommendations for place planning in Auckland based on a review of the relevant international literature and local government documentation, and an analysis of relevant case studies of community development actions, projects and initiatives.

Researchers: Karen Witten and Penelope Carroll

Duration: October 2009 - March 2010
